Bank Rakyat is a Co-operative Islamic bank established in the year 1954 in Peninsular Malaysia which was earlier known as Agong Bank or Apex Bank which was a result of merger with 11 union banks.

Bank Rakyat name was assigned in the year 1973 and further expanded its activities to nonmembers by accepting deposits and lending loans to the customers.

The bank took a giant step to become Syariah compliant in the year 1993 for all four of its branches and therefore fully become an Islamic Cooperative bank.
